Stitch Sampler: The Ultimate

review written by Melinda Frewin
This is a wonderful book for the first time stitcher or for the experienced
stitcher who may want to learn a new stitch. As a reference tool, this
book is valuable and informative. This is a 160 page hardcover book that
shows with colored photos more than 200 stitches.
I purchased this book because I wanted to try a new handicraft and I just love primitive stitchery pieces. Since I didn't know any stitches whatsoever, I decided that this book would be of much needed help. What a great surprise! This book is so full of information, I really don't think I will ever have the time to learn all these wonderful stitches!
The book is arranged in an easy to follow format. The introduction covers a little bit about embroidery and stitching. Next is the section of materials, tool and techniques. This covers everything from what tools and fabrics you need to stitching techniques. I loved the sections... Gallery of Stitches, Line and Border Stitches, Filling Stitches, Openwork Stitches and Needlework Stitches. All in all it shows over 200 stitches in color.
The useful information will astound you. Each stitch has a color photo, instructions on how to make the stitch, other names the stitch may have (for example a double running stitch may also be called a Holbein stitch), the stitcher level (easy, intermediate, advanced), uses for the stitch, the method and the materials you may wish to use.
Overall, this is a must-have book for your library. You will use it often and learn new stitches. It is available here - click here. Be sure to drop Lucinda and e-mail, she would love to hear from you.

Heart-Felt Wool Applique
by Lorinda Lie

If you have ever wanted to learn or to try wool appliqué, then you will want
this book! It is a soft cover 112 page book. You will get to try appliqué,
quilting and simple hand stitching.
Lorinda did a great job writing this book. It is stuffed full of useful information and tips. I just loved her tips located in the blue boxes here and there throughout the book! I learned a great deal from reading the pages and I will want to keep it handy as a reference tool. There is a lot to learn about wool, and Lorinda has great ideas of where to find it at low prices. Honestly, I didn't know there was so much to learn about wool.
You won't believe all the things you are going to learn from this book. For instance...Learning the Basics include - collecting wool, preparing wool for use and the general project directions (sizing quilts, cutting blocks, hand and machine applique, quilt assembly, quilting and finishing). Next are the projects - 18 in all. Finally are the patterns, bibliography, resources and about the author.
This book is great for all quilting and stitching levels. As a total beginner, I found it easy to understand and follow the directions. I am sure that the more experienced quilter will enjoy this book as well. Purchase your own copy- click here.
