designer and hostess of Stitchery Stop

Thank you so much for stopping by Stitchery Stop and browsing around!  For as long as I can remember, I have always been crafting and creating things.  My first experiences with arts and crafts were introduced to me at home.  My mother was a jewelry goldsmith and was working around gems and stones.  So, I grew up with creativity.

One day, around the age of 7,  I found my grandmother's old singer sewing machine (black pull-up in a cabinet with a knee press to make it run) and I taught myself how to machine sew.  I also started designing my own doll clothes.  I had no clue about patterns!  I just cut out ideas from fabric scraps, examined my own clothes or other doll clothes, and I would go from there.  Out of cardboard boxes, I created a doll clothing store and sold my creations to my little girl friends for 25¢ or 50¢ depending on how much work went into them.  I had a good little business going on until the day I sewed the machine needle into my index finger.  I set aside sewing for a long time after that.

Growing up and into my 20's, I tried other arts and crafts - ceramics, cross stitch, latch hook rugs, needlepoint and decorative painting.  I never forgot my love for fabrics and sewing, but they kind of were left at the wayside when I started decorative painting.  (You can read about my painting biography by clicking here).  When my first child was born, I began to sew again.  I also entered the craft show market on a local level and sold painted and sewn items in my booth.

Now as a work-at-home mother, I design painting and penny rug pattern and sell them on-line and for magazine projects.  I just feel so blessed that I have the desire to create and enjoy arts and crafts.  I hope you feel that way too!
