If you love Rosemaling, then you are in for a treat with Rosemaling - A Brush with Tradition by Kristen Birkeland, CDA. Kristen is a member of our painting chapter and I have seen her work personally. Her brush strokes are perfect and I love her color schemes. All these projects are color coordinated, so you could paint each project and they would all go together harmoniously. The projects are painted with acrylics, so everyone can give Kristen's Rosemaling a try.
The project pictured on the books front cover is a lazy susan. The overall colors are blues, white and barn reds. It has wonderful details of flowers, scrolls and strokework. Also, this wooden project has a scalloped band and bead underneath - so it has a bit more sophistication than what is pictured. This piece would add incredible charm to your dining table. Another set of projects for your dining table, and that would go perfectly with the lazy susan are the Rogaland Placemats. Kristen has painted four different designs, so you could paint them all differently or pick a pattern you like and paint them all the same. The second placemat matched the lazy susan - same colors schemes and very similar designs (be sure to paint the matching napkin ring). The first placemat is overall barn red with touches of white, blue and green - be sure to look for the matching napkin holder and napkin ring. The other two placemats are just a beautiful but with different designs. Keep in mind that all these pieces are painted in the same color families, so they would all go together. The Ale Bowl, Stein and Tankard are also wonderful pieces to display in the dining area. The overall colors are red iron oxide, blue and white. They would go together well with placemat #1 mentioned earlier. These pieces would add a touch of Norway to your home. Be sure to look at all the other beautiful designs in this book - Telemark Skates, Christmas Plate, Lamp and Ornaments, Gameboard and the Tine and Tray. Kristen has also included a full page colored step-by-step worksheet that shows how to paint the Rosemaling leaves, scrolls, and all the flowers. It is very helpful to look at.
