Concrete and Terra Cotta Preparation: It is important to have a clean
surface before you begin painting. The best thing to do is to scrub the
stepping stones and clay pots clean with soap, water and a stiff cleaning brush.
Rinse soap off. For added cleanliness, rinse again with white vinegar to
get any soap residue off. Let dry. Now you are ready to paint!

Garden Variety...Folk Art by Melinda Frewin (that's me) is a fun, colorful book full of projects for your garden, or to bring a touch of your garden into your home. You will get to paint flowers, birds, bugs and more. These designs are seasonal, so you will be busy painting all year long. Some of the fun surfaces include - stoneware tabletop water fountain, stepping stones, sun catcher, wood stacks, wooden kite, glass bug jar, paper maché diary and journal, tin candle cones, wooden angel with tin wings, clay pot, and I also designed some projects on "found" items. The before photos will be posted soon. These include an old mister/plant sprayer, round tin box, old metal scoop. This is a 40 page book which include 8 color pages. One of which is a step-by-step worksheet.

I love my garden and I love to paint project for my garden. Color is very important, and bright colors add happiness and joy to your life. These projects were designed to be bright and cheerful and add some fun to your yard and your home.
If you love flowers, then you will enjoy painting the Fleurs flower pot or you can use it as a pen/pencil holder. Be sure to fill it with the carved flower pens! Use the fun flower pens to write in your gardening journal. The pens also make great gifts. To continue on with flowers, how about painting the Flowery Water Fountain and Flowery Reflection mirror/frame. The Flowery Mister/Sprayer was a "found" item I purchased at the Salvation Army thrift store of about $4.50. You can see the before picture below.
For the kids, they will love the Sunshine Stepping Stone and Suncatcher. Or, maybe they would like the Ladybug Stepping Stone. These are colorful, cheery designs. Too cute to step on! Paint the kids the Bug Bungalow for their 6 legged visitors. Or, they can write about their day in the garden in their Secret Garden Diary.
The "Cardinal and Chickadee" include a painted mason jar on a chicken feeder, a cardinal wooden stack and a chickadee mini surprise box. What's the surprise? It's a little chickadee painted on the inside of the box. These designs are painted for the winter months with the overall colors - red, white, black and green.
There are other projects such as the Patriotic projects and the Sunflower/Autumn designs. I hope these ideas will keep you painting all year long.
Let's not forget the color step-by-step worksheet to help you with a few projects.

Also included is a complete source listing, supply listing and a large section on terms and techniques. You will get to learn about frosting your own glass, brush mixing and other terms you may or may not be familiar with. I designed the projects for beginning painters and painters with experience, so all painters may be able to paint something from here.
