PREPARATION:

Trace the pattern onto tracing paper. Place the transfer paper onto the fabric, center the design aver the transfer paper and retrace the design with a stylus, transferring it to the fabric.

Please refer to Beginning Lessons if you are having problems with any of the strokes.

PROCEDURE:

1. Rainbow Ribbon: Paint one color per individual band at a time. Start with the Red band (shaded on your pattern). Once the Red is dry, continue painting in the following order:

Sunbright Yellow next to the red
Kelly next to the yellow
Blue next to the kelly green
Lavender next to the blue.

After the ribbon is dry, use #2 shader for the shoes and #4 shader for the t-shirt to add a line of White highlight color across each section of ribbon, using downward strokes. *Optional ribbon shading for the t-shirt is done with a dry brush, using a touch of Black. Add a little of the color just under the ribbon areas where it seems to twist over itself.

2. Sunshine Faces: Basecoat with Sunbright Yellow. When dry, float a little Egg Yolk around the border edges. Add some White highlights to make the sun seem a little more dimensional. Let dry before painting the nose and tongue with Apricot. Use a dry brush to paint over the cheek areas with Apricot. When dry, add tiny White highlights with the liner brush to the nose and cheeks. Fill in the mouth area with Black. Use the tip if your stylus to create the Black eye dots. use the liner to outline and add detail lines to the face.

3. Sun Rays: Load your shader brushes with Sunbright Yellow . Use one stroke per ray, dragging it from the center face outward until the brush runs out of paint. Continue creating the rays, painting right over the painted ribbon. Repeat the procedure with the Egg Yolk. Use the liner to add some Black outlines here and there on the rays near the center face area.

4. Starbursts and Accent Dots: Use your liner brush and place a dot of color in the center of each star. Pull individual lines out from the center dot of paint to create a twinkling starburst effect. Use the Red and Blue to create the starbursts. Add groups of tiny dots with Lavender and Kelly.
