Instructions

Techniques:

Shade: Using the sideload method, build to the desired depth of darkness. May take 2-3 coats.

Highlight: Float the highlight color on by side loading method. This also may need several layers to achieve desired highlight.

Side-load: Also may be referred to as floated color. Using clean water and an angle or flat brush, dip the brush into water. Blot lightly on a paper towel. Dip one corner of the brush into color and stroke on palette to blend color and water into brush. The color should go gradually across are width of the brush, from color on one side to clean wear on the other. Practice loading the brush properly and always walk it out on the palette first.

Painting:

This ornament is formed by gluing three layers of water color paper to create dimension. Please read all directions thoroughly before beginning to paint.

Trace one complete pattern, except detail lines, onto water color paper. Trace two pieces of design, without the cloud, onto paper. Cut out. You should have three pieces now. On the piece with the cloud, use Model Magic to form the Cloud. Cover front and back side of the paper in the cloud area. Using small pieces of clay, make curls and fluffy parts of the cloud. Gradually flatten area of clay that will go under are arms of the top layer and the bottom layer of water color paper. Lay aside to dry as instructed in be directions for are Model Magic.

On the too remaining pieces, transfer the detail lines, being sure to reverse the design for the back piece. Ink in lines with a black pen. Next, do base coats on front and back pieces only.

Basecoat the face, ears, and hands with T.

Basecoat the wings with FL.

The dress is done with BM, and her halo is based with GG.

Shade the face, ears, and hands with SB. Shade under ear flaps; inside ears next to head; on face on both sides of halo; below closed eye; at outside of open eye; inside mouth; below mouth line and lip; above nose; on hands next to sleeves; and a few dabby strokes for hair.

Blush cheeks and lip with RB. Also, blush tops and insides of ears; on hands; and on nose.

Using W. highlight sides of face; flaps of ears; muzzle; chin and lower edge of face; and edges of hands.

Fill in lower part of eye of W. The pupil is filled with RU. Side-load a W highlight on left side of pupil.

Shade wings by sideloading with RB next to bunny and to separate wing lines. Tint this shading with a small amount of PL G. This should be darkest next to bunny.

Highlight edges opposite shading with W.

Shade dress with F G/B. This goes next to face, and behind all the creases and folds. Make this darkest next to body of dress, behind the arms, under the collar and next to the hands.

Using PL G. deepen shading and tint area here and there. Do not cover all of the blue.

Tint next with a little FL.

Highlight using W. on edges and folds opposite shading.

Now, go back with W on a liner and add highlight commas and dots
Make commas on halo; ear flaps; lip; wings; and hands. Make dots on
eye; cheek; nose; collar edges for lace effect and sleeve edges.

Make W squiggly lines for hair.

After all is completely dry, reline with black pen, except for wings.

Make squiggle lines with black pen and brown pen for hair. Also, line
wings with the brown pen.

Base the cloud piece with W. Tint and shade as needed with F G\B;
PL G; and FL

After dry, coat entire cloud with CG.

When all of painting is completely dry, glue three pieces together, with the front and back pieces laying over the cloud. If the paper layers are curling up on the edges, let them dry with a heavy object on top to flatten it . Make sure that ornament will not become glued to the object. After glue is dry, paint edges of paper to match the front and back. At this time also add any glimmer accents as needed. Spray entire piece a matte or glossy finish as you desire.

If you would like to add ribbon to the piece to hang it, you can place it between the layers of paper when you are gluing them together.

Jessica would look great on your tree or on a wreath during the holidays or she could keep an eye on you all year through.

Enjoy! Jana
