Supplies Needed
DecoArt Americana Acrylic
Paint: Titanium White, Hauser Dark Green, Hauser Medium Green, Black,
Calico Red, Deep Burgundy.
Brushes - #10 or #12 flat brush, stipple brush, #4
filbert brush, #10/0 liner.
Surface: Watermelon Slices cut out your own with 2"
x 6" pine and a bandsaw or scroll saw.
Satin Varnish, Wood Sealer
Instructions
Wood Cutting: trace pattern on to 2"
x 6" pine. Cut out two of the large slices, and then cut one of the large
slices in half. Now you should have one large slice and two small slices to paint.
Prep for Wood: Sand wood, seal with wood sealer, let
dry, lightly sand again.
Painting:
White - base in watermelon area with #10 flat brush, not the rind area.
Hauser Dark Green - base in watermelon rind area with #10 flat brush.
Hauser Medium Green - Stipple stripes on watermelon rind with stipple brush.
Calico Red - leaving some white showing near the rind, LIGHTLY stipple red. Start
off very lightly and as you work higher up into the red of watermelon, get darker with
your stippling.
Deep Burgundy - stipple or float/sideload shade at
the tip of the watermelon slice on the calico red.
Black - with the #4 filbert brush, stroke in the watermelon seeds.
White - with the #10/0 liner, line in a highlight on the right side of each seed.
Finishing:
Varnish with your favorite varnish. I used a satin varnish for a nice sheen.
Place in bowl or basket and enjoy!
