Soldering supplies:
5 microscope slides or clear glass, jump rings, copper tape, lead-free solder, soldering iron for stained glass, soldering stand with wet sponge, flux, Q-tips
(rheostat - optional)

Beading supplies:
waxed beading string, various red / white / blue beads, silver spacer beads, crimp beads, clasp, needlenose pliers

Other supplies:
scissors, glass cleaner, paper towels, computer and printer, matte paper
Simply Soldered instruction book - OPTIONAL
(image editing software - optional)

PREFACE
Soldering, like many art forms, takes many hours of practice to get good at doing. Practicing will let you get to know the iron, solder, flux and how they work together. I highly suggest that you practice foiling and soldering on scrap glass before making your necklace. My students get sick of me saying this, but it's so true - Practice Makes Perfect!

INSTRUCTIONS
1 I learned the soldering from a stained glass class and the microscope slide techniques from a book called Simply Soldered. Cut slides to finished size - you will need one for the front and one for the back for the "image sandwich". Clean glass.

2 Print out images from clip art CD (you may wish to adjust the sizes and colors with your image editing software). Cut out and sandwich between the glass.

3 Wrap edges with copper foil, apply flux with Q-tip, add solder with soldering iron.

4 Solder on jump ring.

5 Let cool and clean.

6 Arrange and bead necklace to your desired length and appearance.

7 Wear with pride!
